Clapham Junction circa 1954


IT used to be - and probably still is - the busiest railway station in the world. As a young trainspotter in the 1950s, I longed to see Clapham Junction, the spaghetti-like tangle of railway lines in south London. But I was an impecunious lad in Leicestershire, so it never happened.

This impression of the famous station in the old days shows an accumulation of locomotives at its many platforms, all bound for destinations near and far.
