The Heron-priested Shore

POETRY has never been a passion of mine, but some lines stick in the mind.

Since my teens, I've remembered Dylan Thomas's 'mussel-pooled and heron-priested shore' - a line so evocative that it brings a vivid image into my head every time I hear it.

It's the 'heron priested' bit that gets me - those stately birds picking their way across the sands with contemplative intensity, as though pondering the problems of the world.

There's no doubt they do resemble clerics, hands behind their backs, deep in thought.

The other day, I had a go at capturing that image. Here it is - The Heron-priested Shore (Dylan Thomas).
