Memories of a distant winter

IT rarely snows in West Cornwall, where I live, but I do recall the winter of 1987 when a blizzard blocked the county's rural roads. For the one and only time in more than 30 years, conditions were so bad that I had to walk three miles to the office and back

This image depicts frosted trees and heaps of snow as a colleague and I trudge up the road from Penryn to Flushing, looking forward to a hot dinner and an evening in front of the fire.

Let's hope the coming winter is kinder, and that the far west is its usual mild self during the dark months to come.
