Inspired by the great Lautrec

TRAWLING through some pictures by one of my favourite artists, Toulouse Lautrec, I came upon a classic piece of his poster art, showing can-can dancers kicking their legs in the air.

It sparked in me a desire to render my own version (completely different from his) using the triangular lid of a pencil box to get the dancers' skirts to match.

With permanent markers, a few blobs of acrylic paint and my beloved gel pens to provide the finishing touches, I managed to produce what I consider to be a satisfactory image. I intend to produce some A4 prints of it for display at Flushing Arts Week in May. It's called Doing the Can-Can.

It's amazing how the old masters can still get creative fires a-burning in lesser souls. Hope you like it.
