Evening in Edinburgh
IT'S only right that one of my favourite cities should feature on this website, if only in an impressionistic form, as a product of my imagination.
I saw something in a newspaper a few days ago that reminded me of Edinburgh, where I've enjoyed many a stay, and I decided to capture an image of the Scottish capital as a colourful assemblage of shapes against a red evening sky.
Edinburgh is sometimes called 'The Athens of the North', possibly because the famous castle dominates the skyline as the Parthenon does in the great Greek city.
But I prefer to call Athens 'The Edinburgh of the South' as a kind of jingoistic tribute to the lovely Scottish city.
I make no great claims for this picture, with its many shortcomings, but there's something I like about it. I therefore offer it for your delectation.
It's called Edinburgh Evening.
