Orange: The Colour of Happiness
AS I was walking past a cafe the other day, I spotted a small handwritten sign. It said: 'Orange is the colour of happiness.'
It so happens that orange is my favourite colour. I suppose its association with the sun is one reason, but I also find it uplifting and invigorating, whatever its setting.
Whereas blue is generally considered a 'down' colour, orange is unquestionably 'up' , signifying optimism and good times ahead.
No surprise, therefore, that orange is the colour I return to time and again when I'm composing my pictures.
This one, Flat Fish in Gold and Yellow, uses orange to great effect, set against a million bubbles. Whatever its limitations, I feel this painting would give a lift to its environment. Perhaps one to keep pinned on the back of the lavatory door.
