Love Among the Haystacks

YOU know what I'm like. Once I get on to a theme, I find it hard to get off.

So here's another painting from my D.H.Lawrence collection.

Lawrence, as you probably know, was a painter as well as a writer. To be frank, I never rated his pictures, but his words were those of a master.

Among his stories was Love Among the Haystacks, which is the title of this innocent sketch portraying rural bliss on a blistering hot day.

The couple steal a kiss behind a haystack while a heat haze settles on the shorn fields. Birds peck the freshly exposed ground and, if we allow our imaginations to stretch far enough, the village church bell tolls off the hours of a dreamy afternoon.

On this glorious June day, the image seems apt. Enjoy.
