A Picture in Moody Blues
ONE of the few programmes on British TV which is actually suitable for intelligent people is Great Canal Journeys, featuring Timothy West and Prunella Scales.
Having traversed the canal system of England, they decided to explore the waterways of Egypt. It was a wall carving on a Luxor (I think) temple that sparked the idea for this picture.
Somehow the Egyptian theme got away from me, and I ended up drawing three faces set in a kind of mosaic, setting off one colour against another. As you know, shapes and colour are the staples of my simple art. This one emerged as if by magic from a scrap of paper that was to hand at the time.
It's called Father and Two Sons. Whatever its deficiencies, I like it. A large version of it would look good in a mood room.
