A Scrap of Jazz

A SCRAP of paper with ragged sides, a black rollerball pen and a spontaneous idea all combined to create this simple picture.

Sometimes the most effective images spring from the most basic ideas.

Suddenly, I was prompted to create another jazz band, a random collection of improvisers belting out a few Dixieland classics.

I left the ragged piece of paper to speak for itself instead of trying to cut it into a more regular format. It seemed to add to the picture's vigour and informality.

It's called Dixieland Jazz.
